Multimodal Composition
Linguistic Mode

. . .there have been professors. . .adopted some avant garde techniques to incorporate multimodal learning. . .
The linguistic mode focuses on the use of alphabetic texts to convey messages. My linguistic essay aimed to examine scholars' pressures to create a multimodal classroom as seen by my experiences.
The synthesis in my essay was not as strong as I would have liked, but I think that it was an overall success.

Taylor Swift's "I Know Places" Through Space
Spatial Mode
The spatial mode looks at arrangement throughout space. I worked with a partner to create a video that emphasized the spatial aspect of the message in Taylor Swift's song "I Know Places."
I think some of the technical limitations of our software interrupted a little bit of the experience, but overall it was a lot of fun and an insightful way to explore the lyrics of this song.
The visual mode considers linguistic, spatial, sometimes gestural, and purely visual elements to create a message meant to be taken in through the eye. My visual infographic was an attempt to visually represent my work process for preparing for an oral presentation.
I think that I may have had too much of a textual presence, but I really liked the use of the asterisk and "Pro tips" for a quick one liner that encompassed the main point of each section. I also really liked how the background of each section was sized to represent the length of time spent in that phase of preparation.

...consider if they're academically different and . . . educate others about their interactions with people about ethics...
The aural mode captures the messages that enter the audience through their ears. For this project, my partner and I created a podcast that discussed the relationship between ethics, morality, and information.
The podcast went well overall. I think I would have liked to have more of a conversational style than we ended up using (and maybe a slightly longer game), but it was a solid presentation full of information on our assigned topic.

Can automobiles be
used as a gestural tool
for other drivers?
The gestural mode can be considered in more layman terms as nonverbals or body language, the way that a communicator uses their body to send messages to someone else. My gestural Sway document explores a theoretical extension of the human body by thinking about how a vehicle can be used to gesture.
While I wish I had used more aesthetically consistent images, I think that my project asks an interesting question and presents the different types of gestures in a logical method.
